The project at Kennestone Hospital Surgery Center involved sealcoating, milling, asphalt overlay, and line striping, including thermoplastic markings. The scope of work included placing 55 tons of asphalt (110 tons with milling), applying 92 gallons of sealcoat, and striping 4,000 linear feet, including curbs, using 13 gallons of paint. The work was completed in two phases, beginning with milling and overlay, followed by sealcoating and striping.
Given that the hospital operates as a 24/7 trauma center, special precautions were required to maintain access for ambulances at all times. The paving was completed in two sections, ensuring one drive lane remained open for emergency vehicles. An on-site officer coordinated with the crew to provide advance notice when ambulances needed to pass through. The same careful approach was applied during the sealcoating phase. Custom stencils reading “Surgery” were also created and striped using thermoplastic material to meet the facility’s specific requirements. Despite the challenges, the project was completed safely and without disruption to hospital operations.
